We started in early 2022, in Studd Hill Community Centre, with a rather random calendar of dates known as “Studd Hill Stand-Up”. We had a regular compere, comedian Paul Savage, who put in the hard graft of persuading fellow comedians to leave the safety of the big city and take a punt on playing to the good people of Herne Bay. And you were ‘good people’. We quickly realised that we were attracting an audience prepared to trust us and put on a fun evening. That trust fed through to comedians who appreciated an audience eager to laugh, and word spread amongst them that this was a quirky but great gig to play. By the end of 2023 we were ready to streamline and go bigger. So from February 2024 (we give you a month off from laughing in January!) we settled on the First Wednesday of the Month, and made a move to the larger capacity, and more forward thinking venue of Hampton Bay Park. Its location, at the end of the Whitstable Road known as ‘Herne Bay Bends’, gave the club its new name, ‘Round The Bends Comedy Club’. Our regular audience followed us, and new punters found us and became regulars themselves. As Paul Savage was spreading his comedy wings to Australia and the Far East, we had guest comperes every month and with them, a continuingly great bill of top notch circuit comedians, making 2024 a great success. The change of venue hasn’t diluted the quirkiness and it continues to be a gig that gets great feedback from the audience… and the acts!
